The City of Norfolk’s comprehensive youth violence proposal “Saving Our Children” is the initiative supported by the Mayor, City Council, City Management, the Norfolk School Board, community agencies, faith-based organizations and the Commonwealth Attorney to address youth violence and gang activity in the city. The strategy is multi-faceted and requires the involvement of several community partners.

Scope of Approach
•Implement a comprehensive program for youth.
•Assist youth in avoiding gang lifestyle.
•Reduce youth participation in gang activity.
             •Provide an alternative program option with transitional support to youth offenders
                               returning  from detention centers, group homes and court services jurisdiction.
       •Receive referrals from partnering agencies to provide services.

Target Group
Females between the age of 12 to 18

Program Process
Twelve months of intensive collaborative case management and follow-up with emphasis placed on participant interaction with family, social conduct and overall environmental shifts.
